SharePoint TechFest 2010 – Post Mortem

TechFest was a great success!!  With over 600 people registered this year, I was honored to be invited to present the mid-day Keynote.   Thank you, to all who attended my keynote and for the wonderful feedback I’ve received.  Special thanks to Craig Wright for his favorable blog post after the event! (Thanks, Craig!)

I’ve posted my keynote presentation, entitled, “The PORTAL Method – 6 Steps to a Successful Portal“, on the blog earlier this week, as promised.   Granted, it was a day later than I had expected, but it’s out there.  Please note:  The presentation is in PowerPoint 2007 (pptx) format, so make sure you have that installed.  If you have problems downloading the presentation, just let me know and I’ll send it to you in email and/or include it in my next Newsletter.    Be sure to subscribe, as subscribers will soon begin to receive exclusive SharePoint Dude content!!!

Seize the Opportunity!

After my Keynote on The PORTAL Method, I had an opportunity to meet several customers (just like me) in need of SharePoint information.  Most of this was preliminary information, such as how to properly plan for your portal migration.   These conversations were great and showed me that there is a HUGE audience out there for information on how to plan and organize a corporate portal.  This can seem like a daunting task – especially if you have little budget, or a small team with little SharePoint experience.

We sometimes take for granted the amount of time, energy, and money put into these initial planning phases.  Additionally, this is often where the portal is won or lost, meaning we either:

  • Recognize that this is important to our business and we make it a priority for our business
  • Or, the portal concept slowly dies on the vine, due to lack of support from the top.

This is why it’s so important to have detailed information about HOW to plan and WHAT to look out for.   The SharePoint Dude is going to provide you exactly that!   I will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to properly plan for portal greatness!   This will not be a “technical guide”, as Microsoft and many others have provided that in many books, found in our Reading List section.   Rather, this will be a methodical approach to gathering one, important piece of data at a time and helping you each step of the way.

YOU CAN properly plan a portal with little time each day.  It may take you longer to execute it, but it will be done correctly and the rewards are plenty!

YOU CAN properly plan a portal with a small team and no prior experience.  Of course, all of that helps, but there are plenty of people out there (like the SharePoint Dude) who are willing to help.

If you get stuck… Don’t worry.  Come back to this site and let us know what you need.  If we can’t help you right away, we will be able to put you in contact with a Trusted Microsoft Certified or Gold Certified partner in your area.

So, come on in!  Stay a while.  Contribute.  Comment.  Learn.  Make jokes.   Have fun!  The SharePoint Dude is here to help!!
